The Client:
Beatbox is a Sydney based, independently owned and operated Australian company
providing one of, if not, the largest selection of production music (more than
80 music libraries containing over 250,000 tracks) to the who's who of the
professional media industry in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia.
Enotia has enjoyed a close working relationship with Beatbox since 2006 when
appointed to develop an e-commerce system allowing customers to purchase a
limited sub-set of the extensive BeatBox music library via instant download.
The Background:
As a leader in the field of production music, BeatBox offered the professional
media industry access to their music libraries via licensed use of a legacy
online system that was developed by a European third party provider.
While the legacy system served its fundamental purpose, the sheer size of the
BeatBox database (in excess of a terabyte) was presenting frustratinging slow
search results to users and dynamic administration of resources required hands
on input from European based personel, which was inconvenient from a physical
time difference perspective.
Additionally, the legacy system was in fact a "shared" resource that levied
substantial annual licensing fees so the decision to invest in development of a
dedicated, custom built BeatBox only system was made.
The Project:
The
BeatBoxMD project commenced with
Enotia producing a comprehensive technical specification document outlining the
many complex requirements.
In brief, the project required the following major functional elements:
-
Automated initial population and highly streamlined ongoing management
of over 80 music library's consisting of thousands of individual albums
and more than 250,000 individual tracks across more than 30 genres
-
An ultra simple, user friendly interface and light-speed advanced
search functionality that includes criteria such as title, description
(keyword), genre, track number, duration, CD code, composer and more
-
A streamlined user approval and management process including allocation
of "regional" access on a user-by-user basis that in turn restricts
access to music tracks on a region-by-region basis
-
The ability for approved users to create, share and download "projects"
containing selected music tracks and the ability to enter searchable
"reference notes" on a track by track basis
-
Automated generation of music track meta data (for reporting purposes
to statutory authorities such as APRA) and inclusion of this data with
all user downloads of tracks and projects and within administrator
generated site activity reports
-
Advanced administrator reporting capabilities that monitors all site
activity and facilitates real-time date based generation of data on a
user-by-user, track-by-track, album-by-album and genre-by-genre basis
-
An advanced user management system that facilitates pro-active
communication with users and generates e-mail alerts based on periods
of non-activity and other nominal criteria
-
An underlying content management system that facilitates publication of
general content throughout the website, including live modification to
Library, Album, Genre or Track data on a one-on-one basis if required
Enotia delivered the project to full specifications and the
BeatBoxMD website, which was launched in
October 2009, immediatedly attracted positive reviews from the professional
media industry.
"If I am not wrong this is the newest and the biggest (not sure though)
online library for production music with up to 250.000 tracks. However I am
sure this vendor has the most up to date database and the easiest interface I
have ever seen."

Advanced searches that were taking up to 30 seconds in the previous third party
system now take less than 2 seconds in the new Enotia produced system, in fact
in most cases search results are returned to users faster than their
web-browser can render them!
The BeatBoxMD system is co-located on dedicated, client owned servers within
the
Enotia network and is fully supported and
managed by the Enotia team.
The BeatBoxMD project is a prime example of the capability of Enotia's
personel, proprietary software technology and infrastructure to produce and
deliver a substantial hosted solution from initial concept through to lifetime
management and support.
